Bedrooms decorate for child

Just as adult decorating decisions are often triggered by a life change, such as a new baby or a major social event like an at-home wedding, your child may want to celebrate a personal milestone with a new bedroom. Right before starting middle school is a popular time to give the bedroom a new personality, but the desire may hit any time between about age nine to sometime in high school. Do your homework and you'll be ready for this adventure whenever it arrives. The pages in this article provide a number of different decorating ideas for your teen's bedroom.

With all of today's product choices available in a variety of price ranges, redecorating a room can be a fun project you and your teen or preteen can share. Let your child know you support (within reason) his or her wish for self-expression through room decor and even an independent-minded child will turn to you for help and advice as well as funds.

On the ticklish subject of funds, you may already know that, while kids this age are painfully brand conscious, most have no desire for the high-end looks adults crave. Fun, funky, and free-spirited designs hold more appeal, and even kids who appreciate the finer things are likely to want a more unrestrained version of a traditional look.

Color Schmolor

It's still "pink for girls and blue for boys." NOT! Maybe that color scheme is still the norm for babies. But don't forget that your baby is now a lady or almost one. So, after getting clues on what color he or she wants to dominate the bedroom, do check Handyman's if they've got just what your teen wants.

Now, if you are not that into the color your then-kid asked for, try to at least compromise by following the shades he or she prefers. If he wants his bedroom painted bloody red, get the panels colored that way or some other part of the room and add a tamer color that will complement his choice of hues.

If your teen's bedroom doubles as his or her study room, you might want to consider some color that will also be conducive to studying.

Interior Motives

Is your teen a goodie shoes doll or a rocker youngster? Try to show some support through letting his or her inclinations shine through with the bedroom interiors. The controlling parent in you might want to put everything in order and doesn't want too much mess inside your teen's bedroom. But including a life-size poster of his favorite rockstar or an animal print chair that's reminiscent of her favorite safari spot will remind them how cool and yet in-control parent you are.

The usual teen baggage, er furnishings such as bean bags, a computer, full-body mirrors, roomy closets, and other trimmings - maybe a disco ball or a lava lamp, are still a hit with teens of today. So, don't forget including them in your to-buy lists.

Don't worry. Many of these cool items can be found from bargain sales or flea markets. Just don't be a lazy-ass and go look for them. E-bay can be also of great help in this endeavor.
